At this year's My College Cares event, 550 91¸£ÀûÉçers, including over 60 college faculty and staff members, dedicated their time and efforts to giving back to the community.

Ten years ago, Mary Eades learned she had breast cancer during her annual breast exam. "I gained strength in telling others of my journey and encouraging others to keep looking up to God because you don't draw any strength looking down," she said.
In 2005, Mack Phillips was serving his country on a deployment halfway across the world when his wife Betty was diagnosed with breast cancer. "I didn't know what to say or do at the time - I was many miles away," he said.
My College Cares is a one-day event where the campus closes so students and employees can venture out into the community and volunteer in tasks that range from cleaning, painting, organizing, gardening, and more.
Mississippi-native writers John Floyd, Sophie Sims Hudson, and Laurie Parker will take the spotlight in this conversation-filled lunch program, set for noon to 1 p.m. in 91¸£ÀûÉç's Workforce Development Center, Room 171.
